Man: Well, the boy's a hero then. Good for you, son. Well done. So it's all well, and back to our brandy, eh? それじゃ君は英雄だ。戻ってブランデーを飲もう。

Cal: Look at you. You must be freezing. Let's get you inside. 凍えてる。早く中に入ろう。

Man: Perhaps ①a little something for the boy. 何かあの少年にお礼を

Cal: Of course. Mr. Lovejoy, I think ②a 20 should do it. もちろん。ラブジョイ、２０ドルほど彼に。

Rose: Is that ③the going rate for saving the woman you love? 愛する女の命が２０ドル？

Cal: Rose is displeased. What to do? I know. ④Perhaps you could join us for dinner tomorrow evening. To regale our group with your heroic tale. お気に召さないか。分かった。明日の晩僕らと食事を。君の英雄談をみんなに聞かせよう。

Jack: ⑤Sure, count me in. いいとも。いくよ。

Cal: Good, settled then. This should be interesting. じゃ、そういうことに。楽しみだ。

解説

① "a little something"はgift, gratuity（心づけ）の代用としてよく使われる表現。
"I've got a little something for you."「君にちょっとしたプレゼントがあるんだけど」のように使える。

② 20ドルを１つの単位とみているので、aをつけている。"do it"はそれで「OK」といった感じ。

③ "the going rate"は「相場」の意味でよく使われる。
「円のドルに対する相場」なら"the going rate for the yean against the dollar"となります。

④ 控え目に要求する時によく用いられる表現。
"Perhaps you can[could] tell me a little bit about your family."
この他に"I'm wondering if you can～"もよく用いられる。

⑤ "Count me in."はパーティー、旅行などで「私も入れておいて」という意味でよく用いられる。是非覚えておこう。その反対は"Count me out."（僕ははずしてくれ）
