Rose:	Oh, stop it mother. You'll �Agive yourself a nosebleed.	興奮すると鼻血が出るわよ。
Mother:	This is not a game. Our situation is precarious. You know the money's gone.	ふざけないで。うちにはもうお金がないのよ。
Rose:	Of course. I know it's gone. You remind me everyday.	知ってるわ。毎日聞かされてるわ。
Mother:	Your father left us nothing but a legacy of bad debt, hidden by a good name. �BThat name is the only card we have to play. I don't understand you. It is a fine match with Hockley. It will ensure our survival.	お父様の遺産は家名だけ。あとは借金の山。私たちの武器は家名だけ。分からないの？この結婚が私たちの生きる道なのよ。
Rose:	How can you put this on my shoulders?	責任を私の肩に？
Mother:	�CWhy are you being so selfish?	自分勝手な娘ね。
Rose:	I'm being selfish?	自分勝手な私？
Mother:	Do you want to see me working as a seamstress? Is that what you want? To see our fine things sold at auction? Our memories scattered to the winds?	私に縫い子をさせたいの？そうなの？持ち物を競売に？見知らぬ他人の手に？
Rose:	It's so unfair.	不公平だわ
Mother:	Of course it's unfair. We're women. Our choices are never easy.	仕方ないのよ。私たちは女。それが女の運命なのよ。

�@	be+to構文が使われていて、日本語字幕より含蓄があり「可能、義務、運命」の意味の広がりがある。
�A	"give"の使い方がおもしろく、。 □ちょっと静かにしてよ→Give your mouth a rest.のように使える。
�B	"card"を使ったイディオムは多く、次のように使える。 □彼は面白い人だ→He is a real card.
	□カードに出ている（そういう運命だ）→It's in the cards.
	□段取りをうまくやりなさい→You should play your cards right.
	□切り札（最上の策）をとりなさい→You should play your best[strongest] card.
�C	be動詞の進行形を用いて「〜のように振舞っている」を表すこの形は"be+selfish"が相手の恒常的な性格を非難するのと違って、相手の行動を非難している点に注目。
