それでは次はアニメ「クレヨンしんちゃん」の日英翻訳にチャレンジしてみましょう。しんちゃんをめぐって夫婦喧嘩をするシーンです。

いかがでしたか。なかなか難しかったでしょう。
そういった日本語のlanguacultureが楽に英語で表現できる人や、そのレベルで英語を話せる人は楽に洋画を理解できる、いわゆるbilingual/biculturalの人でしょう。こういった日常会話ではstraighten out, how dare, come back, come off it, go too far, sensitive, mean, take 〜personal, work out, take〜in stride, shove off onto〜, bring up, get away with〜のような基本動詞、句動詞、口語表現などが重要なのですが、ニュースのようなフォーマルなwritten Englishで話された時事英語ばかり勉強している人は、そういったものが苦手で、それがこういった日常会話や洋画の聞き取りが苦手な大きな理由になっています。
