前回に引き続き、12000語水準以上(米国の大学院入試レベル)の割合が高く出題されており、このことは、15000語水準語彙 のボキャビルの重要性を意味しています。さて英検1級の語彙問題は、大きく次の三つに分けることができます。

この分類に基づき今回出題された英検1級の語彙問題(計24個)の割合をみてみると、
| レベル１(基礎語彙) | 8個の約33パーセント |
| レベル２(必須語彙) | 8個の約33パーセント |
| レベル３(完成語彙) | 8個の約33パーセント |
となり、均等に出題されています。ちなみにアクエアリーズ校の語彙問題集(基礎、必須、完成レベル)のカバー率をみてみると、レベル１(基礎語彙)は8問中6問出題の)75パーセントで次のとおりです。

しかし、基礎レベルでカバーできなかったdeliberate(審議する)とimpartiality(公平)は、高校で習う4000〜5000レベルの2級の単語で当然知って置くべき単語です。もっとも deliberateという形容詞(故意の)の意味を知っていても、動詞の意味「審議する」を知らない人がいるかもしれません。でも時事英語ではよく使われる単語であるので是非知っておいてほしい語彙です。 次に、レベル２(必須語彙)は、8問中6問出題の75パーセントで次のとおりです。

| stigma (汚点) | when people disapprove of something, especially when this is unfair |

| steadfast (確固とした) | staying the same for a long time and not changing quickly or unexpectedly |
| outlay (支出) | an amount of money spent for a particular purpose, especially as a first investment in something |
| cordon (off) (非常線を張る) | to put something around a building or area in order to stop people from entering |
この中で、steadfast(着実な、しっかりした) は試験に出る英単語(シケ単)に収録されている大学入 試レベル単語で 8000〜9000レベルの難しい単語です。しかし、fast(しっかりした)という意味から 来たfastener から類推できないことはありません。次にoutlay(支出) はいろんな教材で使われる 時事英語で defense outlay(防衛費)など当然知っておくべき語彙でしょう。
最後にレベル３(完成語彙)は8問中7問出題の)88パーセントで次のとおりです。

前回、今回に引き続き、完成レベルの単語の比率が非常に高まり、英検1級の語彙問題がGRE(米国大学院入試レベル)に近づいていることを物語っています。今回カバーできなかった flabbergastは極めて口語的で「ぶったまげた」の意味に近く、語彙テキストではカバーしにくい単語です。但し、半年以上のアクエアリーズの受講生ならだれでも知っている授業(類語アプローチ)の中でカバーされている単語となっています。
